The Gargalheiras Dam – ‘Açude do General Dutra’, is without a doubt the most beautiful lake of the Sérido region. Situated 5 km from Acari, it has a depth of about 30 meters, which protects it from the drought.
Upon the arrival, you will be seduced by the great beauty of the site, the enormous extent of water which winds between hills and mountains, more fascinating do to the peace and the tranquillity of the place, still little visited by tourists.

A mighty barrage confines the waters of the dam. At the rain season, the lake can sometimes overflow. The flow of the water, forming waterfalls, offers a magnificent spectacle to the admirers of the site.
It is possible to cross the barrage through a concrete tunnel with 50 meters, accessible by a staircase.
How to come : In the city center, on the chapel of ‘Nossa Senhora da Guia´s’ square, go towards Gargalheiras.
Near to the lake, after the barrage, it is possible to visit archaeological sites with rupestral engravings called ‘Itaquatiaras’.
The exploration of the region and the neighboring lands of the lake can be made on horseback. Check with the guides and the inns.
Before reaching the dam, the road crosses the nice small village of Gargalheiros, with its colored houses.
