Situated in the east part of Seridó, Currais Novos is a city of 41000 inhabitants. It owes its name to the construction of several corrals in 1755, which stimulated the populating of the place.
The festivity of the patron saint of the city ‘Nossa Senhora de Sant'Ana’, in July, is the greatest annual event. Currently, the production of cow's and goat´s milk are the main activity and there is also horticulture, with numerous small producers in the region.
The city developed at the pace of the economical activities of cattle breeding, cotton and the extraction of ore. The monument dedicated to the figure of ‘Cristo Rei’, is on the square with the same name, where you can admire the beautiful Matriz de Sant'Ana Church

Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Brejuí mines, which produces scheelita ore.
