Its began to be used on September 3rd, 1898, with the American minister William C. Porter.

Square in September, inaugurated in 1922 with civic parades and which faces the 'Palacio Potengi 'the ancient building of the government and at present a museum. It has also the name of the square of the 3 powers as local of the 'Prefeitura de Natal', the Legislative Assembly and the Court of Justice of the state. It is also used for musical shows.

Praça André de Albuquerque
The square was the first element of the foundation of Natal on December 25th, 1599. In 1888, the square took this name in homage to the leader and the martyr of the revolution of 1817, André de Albuquerque Maranhão. In this place can see 'Palácio Potengi', church ' Matriz', the 'Instituto Histórico e Geográfico' and the ' Memorial Câmara Cascudo'.

This small square officially called 'Tomás de Araújo' is known as 'Praça das Mães', by the fact of theses mothers who met in this place to receive news of their sons that had left to the war ( Second World war). Its construction is from the 60s, the ceramic panel and the iron is in homage to the mothers of all the races, his author is the artist Dorian Gray.
