The Ponta Negra beach, Natal postcard, got this name due to the rocky dark formations on its bay extremity. It became the place of the tourist concentration activity in Natal.
It goes from these famous black stones until the beginning of the Via Costeira beaches, passing by Morro do Careca (The Bald Dune), a dune 80 meters high, surrounded by vegetation and closed since the end of the 80s to protect the vegetation and allow the fixation of the dune.
Nearby 'Morro do Careca' the sea is quiet while in the center and more to the north the waves are strong and appreciated by surfers.
During the day, the beach is the meeting place of some sports lovers such as: football, foot volleyball, volleyball, Surfing, Kite Surf, Jet-ski, etc....
The beach is also place of folkloric demonstrations animations.
A sidewalk ‘Calçadão’ was built at the beginning of 2000, 3 km long, for the pleasure of the walkers in jogging or stroll. Along the sidewalk there are many kiosks selling drinks, cigarettes, snacks, etc…
The Ponta Negra night-activity is assured in the high part of the neighborhood ‘Alto de Ponta Negra', with bars and restaurants grouped in some streets.
How to come : From the center of Natal, take the BR101 (Salgado Filho) then the avenue Roberto Freire.
On the hill set back from the beach, houses are supplanted little by little by the tourist infrastructures, with numerous recent constructions of hotels, inns (pousadas), restaurants and bars, which offer to the beach an enormous tourist potential.
