The Touros city, located in the northern corner of Brazil, has a very warm and kind population.
The central place situated in front of the baroque church of 'Bom Jesus dos Navegantes', detains two artillery witnesses of the Dutch occupation in 1640. The church was built in 1800. The big cross placed outside, by the request of the monk Serafim, has been set up to try, trough prayers, to escape strong rises in the water level on the time.
Touros possesses a very ancient folkloric group 'As banderinhas', consisted of old ladies of Touros. The Touros carnival is one of the more full of life in the state.
The Touros beach is characterized by a beautiful and long bay protected from the strong waves by cliffs on its southern side. Its name comes to the existence in the 16th century of a rock in the form of head of an ox.
Close to the lighthouse there is the zero kilometer site of the BR101. On this place, you will see an arc called 'Marco Zero', drawn by the Brazilian famous architect 'Oscar Niemeyer'. The BR101 is 4542 km long, and connects both states of Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul.

On the Calcanhar headland is situated the lighthouse of the same name. With a height of 70 meters, it is the highest lighthouse of South America. The lighthouse which belongs to Brazilian Marine is opened to the visit only on Sundays from 2:00 pm till 5:00 pm (schedules to be confirmed).
It has been built in 1912, and equipped in 1943 with a turning light which allows it to reach the brilliant distance of 80 kilometers.
The tourist structure in the region around Touros is few developed and it is limited to few pousadas and restaurants specialized in fish and seafood.
