This river crosses several regions and cities, 'Nova Cruz', 'Pedro Velho' and 'Canguaretama' then joins the river 'Cunhau' before throwing itself into the sea in 'Barra de Cunhaú' where these two rivers widen of several hundreds meters.
Before arriving in 'Barra de Cunhaú', after the city of Canguaretama the river floods a valley which are mainly occupied by shrimp ponds. The breeding of shrimps is one of main economic state activities.
Crossing the riveris beach, you will reach a long deserted strip of sand with dunes and coconut palms, with, on the background a beautiful hill, a magnificent landscape called ´Olho d’agua'.
The river is rich in fish and shellfish, which come to lay their eggs in mangrove swamps spread on the south bank of the river.
The peaceful of the place is disturbed only by fishermen who come to throw their nets.

The main attraction of the river is the boat trip along mangrove swamps 'Manguezais' and close to the sea, with bathing. This ecological trip is organized by boat companies and also by a local fisherman called 'Seu Menino'.
