Snorkelling or diving is the great attraction of the region, which constitutes one of the best sites in Brazil for diving among the coral reefs, which are used as shelter by many sorts of fishes and shellfishes.
The Maracajaú Beach is comprised of parts open to the strong waves and a beautiful litte beach protected from the winds, where the bathing is pleasant.
The snorkelling is done in natural pools, also called 'parrachos', with 13 km2, comprised of corals situated 7 km away from the beach.
The lagoons are beautiful and often the leisure spot for the local population.
With 1 to 2 meters of depth in the low tide, it enables admiring the miracles of the sea floor, the corals and the multicolored fishes. The instructors supply goggles and snorkels and give the instructions needed as well as the aspects regarding the coral reefs and fauna.
The marine fauna of the region presents great biodiversity, where you can find numerous species, such as the “Barracuda”, Sardine and other fishes called “Peixe Frade”, schools of Mullets ,“Budião”... You can also see lobsters and octopuses.
These natural pools were recently declared “Preservation Areas”, in order to protect its ecosystem.
