The name of the beach comes from the lagoon 'Lagoa do Fogo' which forms a river ‘Rio do fogo’ on its approach to the sea.
The beach, in spite of the development of the city and tourism, remains peaceful, with its south part, comprised of small dunes with native vegetation and an active fishermen's colony famous for its crafts, which revolve around fishing.
The city of Rio do Fogo possesses around 10.000 inhabitants and spread itself near the coast. Some hundreds of meters away, you can admire ‘Lagoa do Fogo’.
The village presents a friendly aspect and an attractive small square where you can listen under the shade of the church, the fishermen telling their adventures.

Zumbi beach. The name of Zumbi, of African origin, comes from a site which has existed for three centuries, called by this name due to its dark aspect.
Zumbi is an isolated beach that receives few visitations, providing the tourist a wild beauty, with a strip of coconut palms on all its length.
On the return of their fishing trips, the friendly fishermen, are occupied by mending their nets.

To the landscape of the region was added some years ago an important park with 62 wind turbines, the ‘Rio do Fogo’. These turbines allow the use of a renewable energy, which contributes to the energy self-sufficiency of the state and supplies electricity to a population of 350.000 inhabitants.
