Its name is due to the abundance of shells very appreciated in the region during the XVIth century.
During high tide period, this beach is swept by strong waves, which makes it dangerous for swimming.
To get a nicer panoramic sight of the entire beach, it is necessary to go a little further to a cliff called Tabatinga. From this cliff you can also have beautiful sunset and full moon.
As all the beaches on this area, there is also a formation of natural pools for a nice bathing.
The South of the beach, wilder is very appreciated by surfers.
The local cooking is based on shrimp and fried fish.
