Beach of Muriú - in the seaside

Touristical places > Région South of Natal > Cotovelo beach

Its name is due to its format in elbow. It is the first beach of the south coast of Natal.

It is frequented by the families of the south zone of Natal which prefer its peace to the excitement of Ponta Negra.

Surrounded by cliffs, with small dunes and coconut palms, this beach in quiet waters limits itself to a small strip of sand during high tide.

The region offers ecological walks in the nature close to Cotovelo with observation of ruins witness of the Dutch presence.

There is some cliffs in the south part of the beach, place called 'Ponta do Flamengo'. From ther the sight on the coast is very beautiful.
It is one of the points where Dutch landed in December, 1633, when they conquered the state of Rio Grande do Norte. (see history)
