The name of the city comes from its illustrious daughter, the writer and poetess Nísia Floresta, who dedicated her life and work to defend the women’s rights. Born on 1810 at Papari, the ancient name of the village, she asserted herself by her exceptional behavior and brought innovative ideas not very well accepted on that time. She lived in Rio de Janeiro, Paris and died in Rouen in France.
Her mausoleum is on the district of 'Floresta', place where she spent her childhood.

The lake of Carcará, one of the biggest of the region, is located between the Tabatinga beach and the Nisia Floresta city. Unknown some years ago, it is very frequented the weekend by the local population and by numerous tourists discovering this young paradises brought by the local guides.
