Northern littoral of Natal
Beach of Muriú - in the seaside

Its name means small spring, 'Barra pequena', formed by waters of rivers and lakes of the region. The beach is surrounded by reefs forming kind of natural pools.

Malembá beach is located on the southern side of Barreta, it is also surrounded by reefs and is practically deserted. The place is also a paradise for kite Surfing.


The high tide provides a beautiful spectacle of the waves breaking on the rocks.

Tupi Indians lived there previously providing their lives of fishing.

Nowadays, during the low season ,the local populations is formed by fisherman still working with their nets, but during holiday time and carnival the place becomes more agitated.

The main attraction of the beach of Barreta is a cave that appears on the reefs during low tide, called 'Pedra Oca'.

Inside the cave there is a strange sensation of fear when come the waves. There is a legend that suggests that couples should cross the internal side of the cave hand in hand to be blessed by 'Yemanja', goddess of the sea and the beauty. After visiting the cave you can have a feeling of freedom and certainly you will enjoy the sound of the ocean.

The asphalted road stops at this beach of Malemba and continues a sand road which is not appropriated for cars without traction on the four wheels (4x4).

The Beaches of Malembá, sanctuary of the manatee, sometimes partially covered with green seaweeds, have successively the names of 'Tartarugas de Malembá', 'Guajiru de Malembá' and 'Guaraira ou Malembá'. The landscape constituted by this set can only delight the spectators, specially from a belvedere at Bar da Ostra, located on the cliffs of Senador Georgino Avelino.
