The Via Costeira, road 10 km in length, dominated by the dunes of the 'parque das dunas ', connects the beach and the Ponta Negra district to neighborhoods and center beaches. The beaches are situated along the road.
Fine strips of sand, in the name of 'Barreira Roxa' then 'Barreira d' Agua', these beaches are mainly frequented by the tourists who are accommodated in hotels and resorts from Via Costeira. They are pleasant for the bathing, even if the visitors prefer generally the magnificent swimming pools of resorts of international level structure (4 and 5 stars).
Little before Mãe Luiza beach is the hostel school of SENAC (National Service of Commercial Learning) and the Biology Marine Institute 'Onofre Lopes' from the Department of Oceanography of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Not far, the young people of the popular district of 'Mãe Luiza' take advantage of dunes to practice some sand surfing.
The park 'Park das Dunas', which overhangs the road 'Via Costeira' is an ecological reserve of 1172 hectares, and can be visited from the park 'Bosque dos Namorados'. The conservation of the park vegetation, avoids the city to be invaded by the sand coming from the dunes.
