This district which possesses the buildings of the administration and the culture is located on a cliff dominating 'Rio Potengi' and the 'Ribeira' neighborhood.

The historical buildings of the site are a part of the architectural period of the city modernization, at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th century.

You will find monuments with neo-classic style reconverted to museums such as the ancient Governor’s Palace, now 'Pinacoteca', the Historical and Géographical Institute and the Memorial 'Câmara Cascudo', dedicated to the most famous Culture man of the state.

Mostly all the churches of this area are dated from the 17th and 18th centuries. The most visited is the church 'Igreja Santo Antônio' called 'Igreja do Galo' whom shelters a museum of sacred art but also the 'Igreja of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação', the old cathedral, recently renewed.
