This district which possesses the buildings of the administration and the culture is located on a cliff dominating 'Rio Potengi' and the 'Ribeira' neighborhood.

Mostly all the churches of this area are dated from the 17th and 18th centuries. The most visited is the church 'Igreja Santo Antônio' called 'Igreja do Galo' whom shelters a museum of sacred art but also the 'Igreja of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação', the old cathedral, recently renewed.
