The fortress of the three wise kings (Fortaleza Reis Magos), one of the most important of the country, is classified National Historic Heritage and constitute the major historic-cultural attraction of the Natal city.
The construction of the Fortress of the Three Wise Kings began on January 6th, 1598 near a century after Portuguese disembarked on the Marco beach, on the northern side of Rio Grande do Norte.
The witness of this landing, the 'Marco de Touros' is exposed inside the fortress.
The fortress was, for a long time, the representative of the city defense, its shape like a star assuring with its artillery an excellent protection.
Reconverted into museum, some of its rooms were fitted out to redraw its story and the confrontations that it was witness, but also the colonization period and the fights between conquerors Portuguese and Dutch.
Surrounded by waters in high tide, it is connected to the continent by a helm made by rocks.
The visit allows knowing the servicemen and the captain housing, the prisons, the chapel, the artillery and the covered way, and an interesting hidden emergency exit.
